Fidelity

Schuss Lake

Golden snowfleas (Hymenaphorura cocklei) wiggling about on the edge of a snowpatch. Not the best image as these guys are about 1mm long.

Carrots in Love

Thinned these two carrots out of the patch a few days ago.
Rather cute.

Cozy Cabin - now with floors and walls!

Tadpole's room with one exposed log wall. This used to be an exterior wall with a window, back when the cabin didn't have an attached kitchen (in the 1940's we think). The old window will be turned into shelves. We're pretty excited to actually be able to see some of our log walls from the inside now.

Tadpole's room again.

The nook gets an exposed log wall too - plus some gorgeous Douglas-fir post and beam (which this photo really doesn't do justice).

Bathroom walls, with plumbing, electrics and Green Cat Steve (reno-wizard).

Townies

My stylish new cruiser bike.

The big advantage is that I can sit up and therefore still ride with an 8-month belly. Plus the basket - I am no longer sure how I ever survived without a basket.

I will grudgingly admit that Simmers may have outdone me with his homemade bamboo bicycle, which got its inaugural ride last week.

Finishing touches.

The first ride. I think Simmers was more surprised than any of his audience that the bike survived.

A fine destination for a first ride.

Cozy Cabin Happenings

James and his cement mixer setup.

The Cozy Cabin looks on as its foundation gets made.

Strong, solid, non-rotten concrete. Woot.
Since this photo was taken the foundation was built up enough so that the whole cabin is now actually on its foundation. Very pleasing.

More foundation blocks for the centre of the cabin.

My Cozy Cabin project has been a bit more garden oriented.

Daisy

A daisy with some ray flowers poking out amongst the disc flowers.
Daisies are not individual flowers, they're an inflorescence (a group or cluster of flowers). Each little yellow round dot is a fertile disc flower and each purple "petal" is an infertile ray flower. And there's your nerdy fact for your next party.

Orange hawkweed inflorescence (Pilosella aurantiaca).

Raccoons

Raccoons or their tracks were a common sight on the coast. The Park Rangers all recommend using bear-proof canisters rather than hanging your food as the latter doesn't keep the raccoons out.

Tracks on the beach.

We encountered this guy while waiting for the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria. I don't think we were the first humans he encountered.

A Raccoon foraging for treats in Port Angeles. So cute.

And on another note, I was very pleased to finally figure out how to embed a Vimeo video onto my blog. Thank god for random internet peeps that post helpful advice.
