Herbarium Specimens

Cissampelos Pareira L.

Today we mounted our specimens that we collected in Belize. It was a very enjoyable activity - a pleasant combination of art and science. They will (hopefully) be in the Edinburgh herbarium as long as it's around.

Cyperaceae species (a sedge)

With an export permit. Actually one of our instructors stayed behind for 3 days to get it all sorted it out, so the process is still a mystery to me. As far as I can tell getting stuff into the UK is not difficult. They seem to welcome exotic species with open arms. Though these dried plants did spend 3 days in the freezer upon their return, before being let loose in the herbarium.
